OPENAI NEEDS A LOT OF CHIPS FOR ITS GOALS
👀 TLDR:
In this week’s What’s Appening, we cover the latest appenings at OpenAI. The ChatGPT company reportedly has plans to launch “Agents,” a type of AI assistant that will access your device and perform all sorts of tasks, from paying bills to booking flights to organizing your day. To do so, OpenAI is going to need a lot of chips and fast, so is it any wonder Sam Altman is courting investors for trillions to build chip factories to meet the company’s goals? In other news, we have a look as Bluesky opens its platform to everyone. We have reports on Google’s AI rebrand, Disney’s Fortnite partnership, Robocalls, and a sports streaming super app. Our Stat of the Week covers the staggering amount YouTube pays to creators, and What’s dAppening looks at how crypto investors are suing the NBA. Also this week, we have a brand new feature we call GPT of the Week! We kick it off by highlighting “Hormozi’s Irresistible Offer Formula” for critiquing landing pages.

🛠️📠 OpenAI – Plans to Develop Software to Operate Devices & Automate Tasks
What’s next for OpenAI? The word on the street seems to be the development of “Agents”, which are effectively virtual assistants that can carry out tasks without needing human assistance or supervision. The idea is that the Agents will have control of your device, handling web-based tasks like booking flights or creating itineraries – anything that you would usually click or swipe to achieve. Effectively, what we are looking at is the leap from AI bots to AI assistants; an Alexa that can do more than turn off the lights. We should note that OpenAI is being tight-lipped about this, and we are relying on reports picked up by The Information and Reuters, but it does seem a logical step. There are, of course, questions on trust and privacy. Moreover, these agents would require massive compute, likely more than what is offered by your smartphone or laptop chips. Coincidentally, or not as the case may be, OpenAI chief Sam Altman has been asking for funding of up to $7 trillion to completely revolutionize chip production. It’s a lot of dough – roughly the size of the annual US federal budget – but it shows where Altman’s thinking is at. We are going to need a bigger boat. #AIAgents Read more here.
🦾 GPT of the Week:
Our Inaugural GPT of the Week is fellow agency owner JP Holecka’s “Hormozi’s Irresistible Offer Formula”. If you are familiar with best selling author Alex Hormozi, you might know about his “irresistible offer”. This GPT will take a screenshot of a landing page, and critique it using Hormozi’s formula with suggestions for optimizing conversion. We tried it already for our two offers (the Product Workshop and our AI Prototyping Sprint) and yes, we can confirm the GPT works. We’ll be updating our offers accordingly. 🫡 Try it here.

🔓🟦 Bluesky – Decentralized Twitter Alternative Opens to All
After a long period of having an invite-only approach, Bluesky, the Twitter/X alternative, opened its proverbial doors to the masses. If you have jumped on yourself, you’ll note that it looks a lot like Twitter. In fact, it’s almost identical in terms of function and UX. Indeed, from our own brief dalliances on the platform, we found that X and its controversial owner were the main topics of conversation on the platform. There is definitely a feeling of Bluesky being a home for X exiles, but we’d be a little bit more excited if it were able to offer something more. Bluesky, like Mastodon, are a little different under the hood, given their decentralized structure. But in truth, we get more excited by web3 platforms like Farcaster, Lens, and Nostr (a favorite of Bluesky backer Jack Dorsey right now), which offer a true alternative to the Web 2 models of social media. Enough with the Twitter clones already. Let’s build something different. #BlueskyOpenToAll Read more here.

In a letter to the YouTube Community, CEO Neal Mohan revealed the staggering amount of money paid to creators over the last three years - $70 billion. It’s a huge figure. 🏀🧑⚖️ NBA – League Sued By Investors Over Ties to Collapsed Crypto Exchange
Voyager is one of several crypto exchanges that collapsed amid the carnage of the market in 2022. And as with FTX and others, investors lost billions in that collapse. Some have banded together to sue the NBA and former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban over ties to the failed exchange. The lawsuit accuses Cuban and the league of “gross negligence” in their promotion of the exchange and “unregistered and illegal securities”. Cuban is facing a separate suit from investors, who believe he should pay back some of the $3.5 billion he earned from selling the Mavs. #NBASued Read more here.
